Summary:

Glen Holmes Jr. is a fugitive wanted for the May 1, 2006 capital murder of Barry Thomas, 32, in Conroe, Texas. Holmes shot and killed Thomas during a carjacking at a Taco Cabana drive-thru on South Loop 336, then fled and has remained a fugitive since jumping bail in 2008.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

On May 1, 2006 at approximately 1:40 a.m., Barry Thomas and his girlfriend Nikki Hubbard were at the Taco Cabana drive-thru on South Loop 336 in Conroe, Texas. Glen Holmes Jr. and three companions had been driving when their car broke down at a nearby Shell gas station. Holmes approached Thomas' gray Cadillac and demanded the vehicle at gunpoint. Thomas' girlfriend immediately exited the car, but Thomas hesitated. Holmes opened fire, striking Thomas twice. After shooting Thomas, Holmes stole the Cadillac and drove through the Taco Cabana drive-thru window demanding tacos. Police pursued Holmes through Montgomery, Harris, and Walker counties as he fled in the stolen vehicle. Holmes crashed the Cadillac and fled on foot across the freeway. The murder weapon, a .22 caliber rifle, was found in the abandoned vehicle. Thomas was found dead in an alleyway shortly after.

Additional Details:

Holmes was arrested on May 18, 2006, by Houston Police, Conroe Police, Texas Rangers, and U.S. Marshals near an apartment complex in the area of Goodson Drive and Airline Drive in Houston. He was booked on a capital murder charge at Montgomery County Jail with an initial bond of $50,000. Holmes was released on bail on August 7, 2006. He was arrested again in late 2006, reportedly for violating his parole or probation, with a $75,000 bond. He was released again after posting bond. Holmes failed to appear for his capital murder trial scheduled for May 8, 2008 (sources vary on exact date as May 2008). On the night before or day of trial, Holmes removed his electronic ankle monitor and disappeared. The charge of bond forfeiture and a manhunt were initiated. Holmes has remained a fugitive since 2008. Law enforcement believes he may have fled to Mexico, possibly to states including Chihuahua, Coahuila, Saltillo, Nuevo Leon, or Monterrey. A 2018 tip indicated he was seen at a Mardi Gras festival in Louisiana. In 2025, authorities stated he may be in Mexico disguising himself as a woman. Holmes was featured on America's Most Wanted and Investigation Discovery's 'In Pursuit With John Walsh.' Law enforcement considers him armed and dangerous. Barry Thomas' cousin, Nathaniel Broussard, has publicly stated his frustration with the case, noting that Thomas was killed for his car.
