Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

On June 24, 2006, Mejia was involved in a violent domestic violence incident with his wife, Jackelin Romero, leaving her with injuries to her thumb and head. He was arrested and spent three days in jail. The court charged him with domestic violence and issued a temporary protective order forbidding him to possess any deadly weapons. Despite having a deportation order pending, Mejia was not deported. On September 23, 2006, at approximately 10:00 PM, police in West Chester accuse Mejia of going to Romero's apartment on Wyndtree Drive and stabbing her multiple times during an argument. He left her to bleed out in the apartment. Officers found Romero dead, stabbed multiple times.

Additional Details:

Mejia was a Honduran national who had moved to the suburbs of Cincinnati illegally in 2000 with his wife, Jackelin Romero. They had a daughter together born around 2001. Despite the temporary protective order and domestic violence charges, Romero was unwilling to testify against Mejia during his court date in the summer of 2006. After fleeing the scene on September 23-24, 2006, Mejia was featured on America's Most Wanted in October 2006. The black Toyota sedan he drove away in featured custom 5-spoked tire rims but was never recovered. Police believed he may have driven to Memphis, Tennessee, where he had family connections. He also had family ties to Biloxi, Mississippi, and other connections to Houston, Texas. As of the available information, Mejia remains a fugitive wanted for murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
