Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

On June 29, 2007, David Michael Burney purchased a red 1987 Toyota Tercel and set out to drive to Georgia to visit his two daughters. He stopped at the Jet-Pep gas station and convenience store located on Highway 57 in Battleground, Alabama, which was the last known sighting of him. He was never heard from again after that day. In late August 2007, approximately two months after his disappearance, locals reported having seen his abandoned Toyota in Bankhead Forest off County Road B15 in Winston County, Alabama, as early as July 7. The vehicle was out of gas with the battery missing, but there was no blood at the scene and no indications of a struggle.

Additional Details:

David Burney's family, including his mother, sister, and six children, all stated he would not have left of his own accord and believe he may have met with foul play. Statements made by the family indicate that David may have had some enemies. Prior to his disappearance, David had suffered a heart attack. He is listed as an endangered missing person in both the ALEA (Alabama Law Enforcement Agency) database and the NamUs database. His case was featured in Episode 7 of the Unforgotten podcast. Investigators continue to seek information regarding his disappearance.
