Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
On September 16, 2007, at around 9pm, Edvin Johnson was attacked in the stairwell of Barnet House, a residential block on the Crawford Estate in Camberwell, southeast London. He sustained a single stab wound to his groin. London Ambulance Service was called, and he was transported to King's College Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigations revealed that a group of approximately twelve youths were present on the estate at the time of the incident. Police believe that five of these youths attacked Edvin and another man simultaneously, though neither victim is thought to have been the intended target. Three knives were recovered from the area by police; one of them had Edvin's blood on it. Two of the knives were silver-handled knives from the same set.
Additional Details:
Edvin was days away from beginning a course in Business Studies at Southampton University when he was killed. Between September 2007 and October 2010, fifteen people were arrested in connection with the investigation. By September 2012, at least 16 people had been arrested, and by later reports, at least 18 people had been arrested in total, but no one has been charged with the murder. In 2017, ten years after the murder, the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Serious Crime Command launched a fresh appeal offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of the person or persons responsible. Detective Inspector Justin Howick stated that despite the extensive investigation and arrests, they had not been able to bring the perpetrator to justice. The case remains unsolved. Edvin's mother, Genevive Johnson, made public pleas for witnesses to come forward, describing the profound impact of her son's death and her lack of closure without justice.
