Summary:
Kyle Fleischmann, a 24-year-old college graduate, was last seen at the Buckhead Saloon in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina on November 9, 2007, and was reported missing the next day when he did not show up for work at Fidelity Investments. His family suspects foul play was involved, describing him as a responsible man for whom it was extremely uncharacteristic to leave without warning. He was not having any personal or financial problems, and appeared to be in good spirits the day he went missing. After all these years there is still no new evidence leading to what happened to Fleischmann.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On November 8, 2007, Kyle Fleischmann took his mother, sister and best friend to a Dane Cook comedy show in Charlotte, N.C. In the early morning hours of November 9th, 2007, he vanished into the darkness of the city. Fleischmann was last seen at the Buckhead Saloon in uptown Charlotte on November 9, 2007. The bar's surveillance cameras show that Fleischmann left alone at 2:20 a.m. According to Fleischmann's father, he was seen outside the Fuel Pizza restaurant down the block after he left the saloon, and his image was captured on surveillance tapes. An employee there remembers Fleischmann coming inside the restaurant at 2:30 a.m. He was alone and ordered two slices of pizza. The last time Fleischmann used his cellular phone was at 3:30 a.m., when he called his roommate and his sister. A cab driver thinks he saw a man fitting Fleischmann's description walking on north Davidson Street at 3:25 a.m., but he couldn't say for sure whether the man he saw was Fleischmann.
Additional Details:
At the time of the investigation, dogs tracked his scent to what is now known as the Optimist Park neighborhood, where construction was just getting started on new condos -- now the Edgeline Flats on Davidson. In March 2009, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives initiated a search for the remains of Elon alumnus Kyle Fleischmann in an undeveloped construction site in Charlotte. The ATF searched the site with cadaver-sniffing dogs, and Fleischmann's father, Dick Fleischmann, confirmed the ATF is now handling the case, although no further explanation was provided. In 2009, a federal judge ordered a search warrant for the construction site on 16th and North Davidson Street. The area was searched, but the judge sealed off the documents to the public. It is unknown if they found anything in their search at that time. Kappa Alpha raised $1,700 this week through donations to help the Fleischmann family with a $10,000 reward offered for information leading to Kyle's return, and for the money his family is paying a private investigator to help in the case. After his disappearance, Fleischmann's family and friends have founded the Kyle Fleischmann Foundation, so that others would know where to go for help and information in the critical first days of a person's disappearance. Despite video of his last known location—and a $50,000 reward—the fate of Kyle Fleischmann still remains unknown. The "Help Find Kyle Fleischmann" Facebook group that Kyle's friends set up a couple of days after his disappearance now has nearly 49,000 members. In 2011, the story of the disappearance of Kyle Fleischmann aired on national television. His story was depicted in an episode of Vanished With Beth Holloway on Lifetime, a show about missing person cases. When WCNC Charlotte last spoke to his parents in 2019, they believed he was a victim of a crime and his body was buried within a construction site. At the time of his disappearance, his mother was undergoing treatment for breast cancer and he kept in close touch with her as a result.
