Summary:

Favio Jesus Chipres-Torres is wanted for the capital murder of three-year old Yaritza Garibay.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

The motive for the homicide was an ongoing dispute between the Garibay family and another family. This had been going on since 2003 and was believed to be linked to the Mexican drug trade. The Garibay family should not be blamed however for Yaritza’s homicide. Authorities say that a group of men in a vehicle cut off the Garibay family. This was with the intent to murder Yaritza’s father. Two gunmen, including Favio, got out and allegedly opened fire on the Garibay family. Yaritza’s father and the front passenger ducked to avoid the hail of 17 bullets. Tragically, Yaritza was shot in the brain and her 17-year old sister was also wounded. Yaritza died a few days later from her injuries. All of the contract killers in this case, except for Favio have since been arrested and convicted. A federal UFAP (Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution) warrant was issued for Favio. It was believed that he fled to Mexico, possibly the states of Colima or Michoacan. The FBI made many efforts in an attempt to locate Favio but were not successful. The UFAP warrant was dismissed without prejudice in July in 2024, meaning it can be reinstated in the future. As of this posting, Favio’s capital murder case in Hidalgo County’s court records database has a warrant flag. That means he is still wanted for his alleged involvement in Yaritza’s homicide. In my experience, locating and arresting fugitives in the Mexican state of Michoacan, along with the nearby state of Guerrero is very frustrating. Not only is there significant drug cartel activity and violence, but in many rural locations, villages have had to form their own militias to fight back against organized crime. This means that conducting law enforcement investigations there is a challenge, and that includes locating fugitives wanted out of the United States.

Additional Details:

Anyone with information on Favio’s whereabouts should contact Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at 956-668-TIPS (8477). Favio should be considered extremely dangerous. Please consider sharing this case so that Yaritza’s family can get justice and answers. I will reiterate the point that Yaritza’s family is not to be blamed for her homicide.
