Kadie Major, 26, and her 10-month-old daughter died on Jan. 17, 2008 when Kadie, who was pregnant, died when she was struck by a train in the Moncks Corner area. River died when she drowned in a creek by the train tracks off of Oakley Road, where authorities believe she landed after she was hit by the train. Within days, the manner of death for Kadie Major was ruled a suicide.

Circumstances of Offense:

A railroad worker had discovered the bodies around 8:20 the next morning. Kadie, they believed, had been struck on her side by some object hanging off the train. She had deep lacerations across her lower abdomen and right thigh.

Additional Details:

Kadie was found dead alongside a section of railroad tracks while her 10 month old daughter was found drowned in a pond 100 feet away. The official manner of death for the child was undetermined although investigators have stated that they initially believed this to be a murder-suicide. In September of 2018, Sheriff Duane Lewis of Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, announced new evidence had been uncovered and the suicide angle had been ruled out. Later, in May of 2019, Kadie Major's husband, Aaron Major, was named the sole suspect in her death.
