Amy Fitzpatrick, born February 7, 1992, was a 15-year-old Irish girl who disappeared on January 1, 2008, at 10pm after saying goodbye to her friend Ashley Rose, with whom she had been babysitting, at a house in Mijas Costa in Málaga, Spain. She was walking home from a short distance away and never arrived. She remains missing and unsolved.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Amy said goodbye to her friend Ashley Rose at 10pm on January 1, 2008, after babysitting Ashley's brother at a house in Mijas Costa, and should have arrived at her home a few minutes later as it was only a short walk away. Ashley told Spanish Police that she had walked with Amy to the beginning of a dimly lit track that Amy often used as a shortcut home, and they arranged to meet the following afternoon before saying their goodbyes. This was the last time Ashley saw her 15-year-old friend. Amy's mother, Audrey, did not make a missing persons report until January 3rd 2008, as she believed Amy was with Ashley Rose, then with other friends before realising that actually Amy was missing.
Additional Details:
Once the report was made an investigation began with some Two-Hundred police officers, sniffer dogs and helicopter being used to search for the fifteen-year-old but no trace of her was ever found. The investigation/search seems to have only lasted for two or three weeks then it stalled and went cold, with Amy Fitzpatrick being listed as a missing person. In August 2008, the home of Dave Mahon - the partner of Amy Fitzpatrick's mother Audrey - and Fitzpatrick's lawyer in Riviera del Sol was broken into and a laptop that was used in the search for Fitzpatrick was stolen, in addition Fitzpatrick's Nokia mobile phone was stolen. The stolen documents included confidential police reports about Fitzpatrick's disappearance. In June 2009, Audrey Fitzpatrick received a telephone call from a man claiming he knew the location of Amy Fitzpatrick. The man who Audrey said spoke in an African accent, told her Amy had been abducted and that she was being held in Madrid and made a ransom demand of €500,000. The Gardai and private investigators Audrey hired have investigated the call but found the contact numbers the man had provided were for prepay phones which had never been registered. A police report from May 2011 claims three witnesses have come forward alleging they saw Amy with a mystery blonde woman in the Trafalgar Bar in Calahonda's El Zoco centre hours after her previous last reported sighting. Audrey Fitzpatrick has taken on private investigators who have been working on Fitzpatrick's case since 2008 and they are the same detectives who investigated the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. In May 2012, the Herald reported that a tip had been given to Gardaí that Irish convicted gangland murderer Eric "Lucky" Wilson had murdered her. Her parents believe that this particular piece of information is credible; however, a body is yet to be found and Amy was seen out with an older man on the night she disappeared who her family now believe was Wilson. Amy's 23-year-old brother Dean Fitzpatrick was stabbed to death in Coolock, Dublin, in 2013 in an incident involving Dave Mahon, his mother's partner. On May 6, 2016, Dave Mahon was found not guilty of the murder but guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. In September 2015, Audrey and Amy's stepfather were invited by the mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado and Councillor Mario Bravo for the official opening of a memorial garden in Los Claveles, La Cala, where they held a memorial service for the five missing people that have not been traced since their disappearance which includes Amy.
