Missing From:

Holiday, Florida

Summary:

Kyla Porter, a 19-year-old, left her sister's Florida residence on February 15, 2008, and hasn't been seen since. She called her sister late that evening saying she was at a party and would be home in about an hour. Her family believes she has been met with foul play and did not leave on her own accord due to the fact that she left behind her ID, purse, and winter clothing.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Kyla was living with her sister Lynn in Holiday. Lynn got off work at around 10:30 p.m., picked up her children from her mother's house, and on the way home received a call from Kyla, who said she was at a party and would be home in about an hour. It is unknown where she was at the time of the call. Kyla never returned home and hasn't been heard from since. After two weeks of not hearing from Kyla, her mother called the police to report her missing. Her mother says the police didn't take her seriously since Kyla had left before, and told her to give it another week before they'd make a report. Kyla Porter's belongings, including her purse, clothing and identification, were all left behind at home. Kyla's mother called a friend Kyla said she was with at the party, but the friend told her she hadn't seen Kyla for weeks and hung up after becoming irritated.

Additional Details:

Kyla Porter had returned to Florida after a brief move to Georgia with her fiancé. When he was jailed on a drug charge, she decided the best place for her was back home in the Tampa Bay area. Porter was suffering from depression when she went missing, over the status of her relationship with her boyfriend, and she had also been clinically diagnosed as having Bipolar Disorder. There were rumors that the party Porter attended the night she vanished was in Moon Lake, a swamp area fifteen miles from her home, but this has never been confirmed. The phone Kyla called her sister from was unable to be traced, as it was a prepaid phone that only stored 10 numbers. By the time Kyla was reported missing the information had been deleted. Detective Greg Hinnant of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office told CNN that the missing-person case remains active. The department received hundreds of tips after Kyla Porter's case was featured on the A&E network's 'Psychic Kids' program. Porter's story was portrayed on an episode of A&E's hit series 'Psychic Kids', Season 3, Episode 2, where three teens gave accounts of what they saw in their psychic visions had happened to her. There are no suspects named in her case, and no witnesses have come forward.
