Clinton Thompson walked from his home on County Road 1350 to County Road 1200, where he stopped briefly at a home near County Road 1250. He was last witnessed on Farm-to-Market Road 1896 on the border of Franklin County on approximately December 1, 2011. This was the last time anyone saw him. Prior to his disappearance, Thompson had been involved in a violent altercation in which he sustained head injuries and possibly a broken arm. An extensive search of the area turned up no indication of his whereabouts.

Thompson was not reported missing for forty-five days after his disappearance, making the exact date of his disappearance uncertain. On February 10, 2012, someone mailed Thompson's wallet to his house in an envelope with no return address. Police were unable to identify who found the wallet or where it was found. At the time, authorities appealed for whoever mailed the wallet to come forward, but no one has ever come forward. He is considered missing under suspicious circumstances. The investigation was handled by Titus County Investigators and the Titus County Sheriff's Office. The case remains unsolved.
