Summary:

Matthew Ellis Keith, a 35-year-old white male from Marshall, Texas, disappeared on February 15, 2011, after being released from El Paso County Jail on a parole violation charge. He was dropped at a Greyhound bus station in El Paso with a transportation voucher to travel home to his father in Marshall but never arrived and has not been heard from since.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

On February 15, 2011, Matthew Ellis Keith was released from El Paso County Jail after serving time for a parole violation. He had previously visited Juarez, Mexico and been arrested at the U.S. border. While incarcerated in El Paso County Jail, he wrote letters to his family, who believed he would be released on February 25. However, he was actually released on February 15. As per standard procedure, police officers dropped him off at a Greyhound bus station in El Paso and gave him a transportation voucher so he could travel to his father's home in Marshall, Texas in the afternoon of February 15. It is unclear whether he actually boarded the Greyhound bus. He never arrived at his father's home and has not made any contact with his family, children, or friends since that day.

Additional Details:

Matthew would not go without contacting his family, children, or friends, according to those close to him. There has been no activity on his bank account since his disappearance and he did not have a cellular phone. His family expressed extreme worry and fear for his well-being. Keith suffered from bipolar disorder and required prescription medication to control his condition, and it is unknown whether he had his medication with him when he disappeared. Without his medication, he may have been subject to extreme mood swings. His father believes he may have had a mental breakdown and may not recall his identity. Both El Paso and Houston, Texas police are investigating Keith's case, which remains unsolved. The case was featured on the Unfound Podcast in September 2024. Keith had a history of alcohol abuse and had been charged multiple times with DWI, but he always kept in touch with his common-law wife and their three sons despite his legal issues.
