Missing From:

Grande Prairie, Alberta

Summary:

In the early morning hours of September 4, 2011, 19-year-old James Gregory Lee, known to his loved ones as Jamie, disappeared from the Smoky Flats Campground, an area located south of Grande Prairie, Alberta. An argument resulted in Jamie hitting his head then storming off in anger. He was never seen again. The case remains unsolved and Jamie is still missing.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

He walked away from the Smoky Flats Campground south of Grande Prairie around 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning after an argument with friends who prevented him from driving while intoxicated. A piece of Lee's identification was later found on the access road into the campsite. Police searched on foot, by airplane and boat.

Additional Details:

The family offered a $10,000 reward for his return. Details on how this reward will be paid out were to be announced in the near future. His mother Julie DeWinter says the family has received thousands of tips over the years, some of which are plausible. A promising tip came in that Jamie Lee had been seen at a homeless shelter in Surrey, B.C., but when authorities tracked the man down, he had died of a drug overdose. It wasn't Lee. DeWinter believes the most likely theory for Lee's disappearance is a dissociative fugue, which is a form of amnesia in which the affected person can't remember their past or suddenly forms a new identity away from home.
