Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Brandy was last seen on January 1, 2012, at about 1:30 a.m., at a residence in the 900 block of Rae Street, Regina, Saskatchewan. She was last seen wearing faded blue jeans, a white Adidas full-zip hooded jacket with either black or navy stripes down the sleeves, and white "board-style" shoes. She was carrying a blue and white Adidas backpack. Normally in regular contact with family and friends, she had no contact since January 1, 2012. Brandy's family began to worry after they hadn't heard from her in nearly two weeks.
Additional Details:
Brandy's family filed a missing persons report with the Regina Police Service on January 10, 2012. The Regina Police Service issued news releases on January 11, 2012 and January 17, 2012. Police asked that residents check their backyards and outbuildings for anything unusual and for any signs that someone may have tried to seek shelter from the cold weather. On January 23, 2012, Regina police, along with 10 trained volunteers with Search and Rescue Regina, went door-to-door and block-to-block in the area surrounding the 900 block of Rae Street. Efforts to locate Regina woman extended beyond city limits, with volunteer searchers, along with RCMP and Regina police conducting several searches. On one Saturday, they combed the outskirts of the city's east side. Brandy's loved ones created a Facebook group in order to spread information about her disappearance. In September 2014, Search and Rescue Regina was suddenly deactivated, with members receiving a letter regarding the shutdown. Justin Capp, President of Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers would later state that an investigation was being conducted regarding a complaint of internal irregularities. Brandy was featured in CBC's Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls database. According to relatives, she was born a man and identifies as a woman. Brandy's aunt testified about her disappearance when the inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls stopped in Saskatoon.
