Summary:
Robert Hutchinson is a man from Hendon, Sunderland, United Kingdom, who disappeared on 23 June 2014. He left his home on 23 June 2014 at 18:20 BST in a blue Nissan Micra, and the car was found in Stewart Street, just off Chester Road, the following day. Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On the day he went missing, Robert was spotted on CCTV at the Asda petrol station in Grangetown at 4.48pm filling up his blue Nissan Micra with registration LT03 OZJ, then seen leaving his Corporation Road home at 6.20pm that evening – which proved to be his last official sighting. Police have since identified a man who matches Robert's description walking at the rear of the Chester's pub at 11.05pm – but the trace then goes cold. Robert was last seen leaving his home on Corporation Road in the Hendon area of Sunderland on the evening of June 23, 2014, and the vehicle was later found parked up at the end of Stewart Street close to Chester Road.
Additional Details:
Northumbria Police considered the disappearance as a possible murder as early as July 2014, with two men, aged 39 and 55 arrested and bailed by then. Crimestoppers UK offered a reward of £3,000 for information that might help in the murder investigation. In 2017, a reward of £10,000 was offered by Crimestoppers for information, though nobody had been charged in relation to his disappearance by that date. In 2019, police released CCTV of people on Chester Road around the time of his disappearance, and by then, three men had been arrested, but none charged. The investigation has been going on since 2014 and during that time a number of arrests have been made and a number of premises searched but unfortunately detectives are no closer to finding out what has happened to Robert. A murder investigation was launched following his disappearance with police believing Robert came to harm that night, but his body has never been found. In 2020, his daughter Paula Hutchinson issued an appeal for anyone with information about her father to get in touch, including anonymously.
