Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Grace Elan Sabots, 27, was originally from Oakland, California, and had lived with a roommate in Portland, Oregon, for several years before her disappearance. She owned a house-cleaning business. In late February 2014 she was alone in Siskiyou County, California, camping along State Route 96 beside the Klamath River, roughly 15 miles west of State Route 263 and about 10 miles west of Interstate 5. Authorities were never able to establish why she had come to the area. On Friday, February 28, 2014, a Siskiyou County Sheriff's deputy investigating a vehicle parked near the Skeahan Bar River Access made contact with Ms. Sabots at her campsite. According to the Sheriff's Office, she appeared to be in good health and in no need of assistance. At about 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, the same deputy returned to the area and found her light blue 1989 Toyota Corolla abandoned near the Skeahan Bar River Access, and Ms. Sabots was gone. Deputies reported finding evidence near the vehicle suggesting she may have been injured or in danger, but did not say what that evidence was or whether anyone else was involved. Fresh footprints were found at the river access leading into the Klamath River, with none leading back out. The Sheriff's Office issued a public appeal on March 2, 2014, and search and rescue crews searched the Klamath River and its banks for days. By March 4 the search had expanded about 11 miles along the river. Rain and overcast skies grounded helicopters, and murky, high water kept divers out, so crews worked on foot through the heavy riverbank vegetation. The extensive search found no sign of her. Ms. Sabots is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed about 130 pounds, with blonde (some reports said brown) hair and blue eyes. There are no suspects in her disappearance. The case is classified as a missing person case, and the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office continues to list it among the county's unsolved cases.

Additional Details:

The Sheriff's Office lists this case on its Unsolved Siskiyou website, launched February 5, 2025, which asks the public to share any information, however small.
