Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
On May 18, 2015, John Jacoby, 47, was pedaling his bike pulling a trailer on Weld County Road 15 when someone shot and killed him at approximately 10:15 a.m. A passing motorist found Jacoby's body in a ditch and immediately called 911. One of Jacoby's two brothers, David Jacoby, a paramedic, responded first on the scene. "When I got there, the back of his head had been blown apart," David Jacoby said. Jacoby was shot twice, but authorities did not immediately disclose where he was shot or what type of gun was used. Jacoby was shot twice at about two miles north of Main Street.
Additional Details:
Jacoby's killing was linked to another shooting that occurred on April 22, 2015, when two shots were fired at Cori Romero as she was merging from Harmony Road onto Interstate 25. Authorities believe the murder of John Jacoby and the shooting of Cori Romero were both random acts and have been forensically connected by the caliber of the gun used in both incidents. A task force was formed to investigate the random shootings and then two other shootings happened in the city of Loveland within a couple of weeks of Romero's wounding and Jacoby's killing. On September 13, 2015, someone fired bullets into Cottonwood Plains Elementary School in Loveland. In March 2018, Christopher David Parker was arrested in connection with the June 3, 2015 death of William Connole in Loveland, but investigators have not connected Parker to Jacoby's death. Jacoby worked as a part-time caretaker for the parks and recreation department and also as a bagger at King Soopers grocery. He graduated from Windsor High School, lettering as the football manager, and spent several more decades attending Windsor High School sporting events. It was Windsor's first homicide in eight years. Since John's death, the Jacoby family placed a memorial in his honor on the side of the road where he was killed. The Johnny Jacoby Greenhouse stands in front of Windsor High School. A bench is engraved in his honor at Main Park and a memorial sits in front of the Windsor Recreation Center where he used to work.
