Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

On January 7, 2016, Tyarra and her brother visited their mom around 6 pm. Her mother claims that Tyarra was completely fine that night. Later, her boyfriend, Aaron, arrived and then he, Tyarra, and her brother left to go to Tyarra's grandmother's house for dinner. After dinner, the four were sitting around the living room relaxing. Suddenly, Tyarra got up and said she had to go meet her friend named Travis, and that she would be back in about one hour. She never returned. Williams was last seen at Stoneybrook Apartments off Webster Road near Randleman Road in Greensboro, North Carolina at 8:30 p.m. on January 7, 2016. She walked away from the apartment complex with her boyfriend and her young brother. She told them she was going to see a friend who lived in the apartment complex and would be back in an hour. "Travis" was believed to be a cover for her ex-boyfriend, and this was proven to be true. Upon her disappearance, police reviewed Tyarra's cell phone records and concluded that she did meet up with her friend at their apartment, as she said she would. Authorities also saw that Tyarra appeared to be walking home when she suddenly vanished.

Additional Details:

The case was given to the Greensboro Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Squad on January 11, 2016. Danielle spoke with the detectives about what she believed might have happened to her daughter. She relayed the Facebook messages and who she thought "Travis" might have been, and she gave them the real name of Tyarra's ex-boyfriend. His name has never been released due to the ongoing investigation. Still, he was now a person of interest because he could have been the last person to see Tyarra alive. The investigators brought him in for questioning, and at first he denied ever seeing or talking with Tyarra until investigators showed him the messages from Facebook. He then changed his story and admitted to contacting her first and wanting to arrange to see her. The ex-boyfriend admitted that Tyarra was with him that night. He claims that they talked in his car for half an hour then she got out and began to walk back to her grandmothers apartment. A few days later, police received an anonymous tip that Tyarra's body was located in a trailer lot across the street from the grandmothers home. Cadaver dogs were brought, but nothing turned up. In April of 2016, Tyarra's mom received a Facebook message from a waitress at a waffle house in Jesup, Georgia (about 400 miles from Greensboro). The woman told her that she had a regular customer that she believed was Tyarra. The waitress said that this woman came in many times per week with a group of people, but always appeared uncomfortable. Tyarra's grandfather, Darrell, went down to Jesup to scope out the waffle house and its other nearby locations for days, but this group of people strangely never showed up again. On May 6, 2018, Tyarra Williams' case was featured on an episode of the TV series Disappeared. In this episode, they discuss Tyarra and what events led up to her vanishing. It also follows Tyarra's grandfather and how he embarks on a cross-country search for his granddaughter. In July 2023, it was reported in the Greensboro News & Record that the case was "getting another look by Greensboro police." The article went on to say: "Two retired investigators have been hired on a part-time basis." In January, on the anniversary date her daughter went missing, she asked people to "continue praying, continue searching, continue hoping" on the Help Find Tyarra Cacique Williams Facebook Page, which has 24,000 followers.
