Summary:

Bryan Euymr Vega-Velez is charged with murder in the slaying of 28-year-old Alma D. Rivera-Melendez about 12:40 a.m. Saturday June 11, 2016, at 9803 West Sam Houston Parkway South. Vega-Velez was arrested, but authorities said he bonded out of jail and never showed up for his court date. Investigators have a strong suspicion that he's in the Florida area, or possibly, Puerto Rico. Vega-Velez has ties in both places.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

Ms. Rivera-Melendez and the suspect, Vega-Velez, were in a dating relationship and had been arguing throughout the day, via text messages, while both were at work. Rivera-Melendez arrived home first where she continued the argument via text messages while on the apartment's patio. Upon arriving home, Vega-Velez first went to the bedroom and then walked to the patio to confront Rivera-Melendez. A witness reported hearing the couple argue and then a single gunshot. Vega-Velez then walked back into the apartment before fleeing the scene.

Additional Details:

Bryan Vega-Velez was a jealous man who suspected that Alma was maybe talking to another man. The man had been arrested by agents of the HPD Homicide Division for killing his girlfriend, Alma Delisse Rivera Meléndez, on June 11, 2016. However, a judge released him from jail on bail and the man quickly disappeared. The program "Catch A Killer" highlights more than 600 fugitives who are wanted for murder and can't be found. Deputy U.S. Marshal Cameron Welch is on the Gulf Coast Violent Offender's Task Force. Their job is to track Vega-Velez down. Vega Vélez is originally from Puerto Rico and according to a source, the dangerous fugitive has family and friends in the Florida area, so it is believed that he could be hiding in that state. As of October 2026, Harris County’s court records database confirms that Vega-Velez still has an active murder warrant and is not in custody. Please consider sharing this case so that Alma’s family can get justice and answers.
