Missing From:

La Barge, Wyoming

Summary:

Vanessa Sue Orren, a white female, age 56, went missing from La Barge, Wyoming on March 1, 2016. She was last seen at the post office riding in a red Jeep with her boyfriend and has never been heard from again. Her family reported her missing in January 2017.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Her family last had contact with her sometime in late January or early February 2016. She was last seen at the post office on March 1, riding in a red Jeep with her boyfriend. She has never been heard from again. For unclear reasons, she was not reported missing until January 2017.

Additional Details:

In January 2017, Sublette County investigators received the missing person report and Detective Ian Allen took the case. In June 2021, a county, state and federal team executed a search warrant for evidence of Vanessa's whereabouts at the property of Darrell "Pete" Petry, a trapper who lived in the area. The search warrant was executed on Petry's remote log cabin property on June 19 and lasted until the 23rd. On June 20, Petry left the cabin, supposedly to check his traps, and never returned. His body was found on June 22, about fifteen minutes away; he had been shot to death. Investigators stated his death was a suicide and foul play was not suspected. It's not clear whether Petry is a suspect in Orren's case or what his connection is to her, but her case remains unsolved. LaBarge area residents have told the Sublette Examiner that Petry and Orren were in a relationship at one time. The disappearance of Vanessa "Nessy" Orren is still being actively investigated by the Sublette County Sheriff's Office.
