Garfield County, Colorado

Summary:

Cody Christopher is wanted for the vehicular homicides of Matt Smith and Trent Johnson.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

Authorities say that Cody was driving while intoxicated when he crashed his vehicle. Tragically, Matt and Trent were both killed as a result of the impact. Cody hiked with Trent’s 10-year-old son, who was also severely injured to a nearby ranch house. Cody was arrested and the case eventually went to trial. Cody’s “defense” was that he drank heavily after hiking to the ranch house. A jury did not believe his story and found him guilty of the crime. He unsurprisingly did not show up for his sentencing hearing and a failure to appear warrant was issued for his arrest. As of this posting, Cody’s case in Colorado’s court records database is in open status with no events or proceedings since the failure to appear warrant was issued. This confirms that he is unfortunately still a fugitive.

Additional Details:

Anyone with information on Cody’s whereabouts should contact the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office at (970) 945-0453. Cody should be considered extremely dangerous. Please consider sharing this so that the families of Matt and Trent can get justice and answers in their loved one’s cases.
