Circumstances of Offense:

On Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 2:36 a.m., Omaha Police officers were dispatched to the area of 4117 North 26th Street in northeast Omaha for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Damon Jackson down on the front steps of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics declared him deceased at the scene. He was found slain with an apparent gunshot wound early Saturday morning in front of a home on the same street where he lived with his mother, Sheila. Jackson was a North High School graduate who worked two jobs. He was the father of a 12-year-old son, Damon Jackson Jr.

Additional Details:

Following the shooting, the Metro Fugitive Task Force arrested Amari Ware, a 27-year-old woman, on suspicion of being an accessory to murder and accessory to arson. Ware was arrested on Saturday, October 28, 2017, and booked into the Douglas County Jail. She was charged with two counts of being an accessory to a felony in connection with Jackson's death. Despite the accessory charge, police continued to search for the person who actually fired the fatal shot. As of March 2018, investigators were still seeking the identity of the actual shooter. The case has been classified as a cold case by the Omaha Police Department. Jackson's mother, Sheila Jackson, has remained in contact with the Douglas County Attorney's office seeking updates on the investigation.
