Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Death:
According to Rochester police, the state medical examiner ruled Young’s cause of death was drowning but wasn’t able to determine the manner of his death. There have been suspicions that something may have happened to Young at the Greenwood Inn prior to him being found in the river on May 18.
Additional Details:
Rochester Police Department didn't issue a press release about Young’s body being found ,nor list anything about the incident within its public call logs. The 8:40 p.m. May 17 missing person call about Young wasn’t included in that day’s logs because the call was still active when the midnight shift finalized the log. It wasn’t immediately known why it was also absent from the May 18 call log when the department emailed both days’ logs to media outlets on May 21. * Young's Jeep and keys were left behind when Room 14’s occupants asked him to leave for being disorderly. Young had been experiencing homelessness on and off for the past 1½ years. He had been living out of his Jeep around the time of his death and that he wouldn’t leave it and his keys behind. * None of Young's belongings were in the Jeep when it was found behind an abandoned trailer in Lebanon, Maine. Young’s acquaintances in Room 14 drove the Jeep there after Greenwood Inn management informed them on May 15 it would be towed from the lot. According to police, the acquaintances told motel staff they would drive it to his mother's home, but drove it to Lebanon, Maine instead. Young had no connections there. * authorities found Young at the bottom of a shallow portion of the Cocheco river with his legs crisscrossed beneath him. Police said his sandals were found nearby, neatly arranged side-by-side on the shoreline. There was also a criminal case in which Young was a witness. * The family was not given the opportunity to identify or view Young's body before he was cremated. Police said they were able to identify Young because he was known to them.
