Summary:
In September 2018, Zach Gunnells, a 24-year-old resident of Haleyville in Winston County, Alabama, found himself at the center of a troubling incident. He worked at a local cemetery and is said to have physically assaulted a family member before making off with a commercial truck, trailer, and heavy machinery from his place of employment. Despite a frantic search by family members, Zach was not immediately found, leading many to believe he was in hiding.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Initial attempts to file a missing persons report with the local police department were unsuccessful. His family was reportedly told that a missing persons report wasn't needed since he was wanted for stealing the truck and for the assault. Some of his family members searched for him for months, even using planes to try to spot the truck from the air. Approximately 3 months later, the stolen truck was discovered in a remote area of the Chalk Mines of Hackleburg, in neighboring Marion County. The truck appeared to have been there the entire time Zach had been missing, and that along with other factors has led his family to suspect foul play.
