Summary:

Ricardo Casaya, a 24-year-old Hispanic male, is a wanted fugitive charged with capital murder in Houston for his role in a fatal shooting on August 8, 2019, on Interstate 10 East that killed two men, Binel Gasery and Bradley Barker. He remains at large.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

On August 8, 2019, at approximately 6 p.m., a shooting occurred on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at 11200 East Freeway in Houston. Witnesses reported seeing a newer model black sedan stop in the middle of the freeway, from which an armed Hispanic male exited from the front passenger door. The suspect walked toward the victims' silver Nissan Sentra and opened fire, striking both victims. Bradley Barker, 25, and Binel Gasery, 33, were fatally shot inside the vehicle. A witness reported the shooter was armed with what appeared to be an automatic weapon described as a "machine gun." According to court documents, police later determined the weapon was possibly an AK-47 or AR-15. The suspect then ran back to the waiting black sedan and fled the scene. Officers found both victims already dead at the scene, along with a large quantity of marijuana, a BB gun, four cell phones, and cash ($1,000 in each victim's pocket).

Additional Details:

Investigation revealed that the shooting was suspected to be a drug deal gone bad. Charges were filed on March 7, 2020, against three suspects involved in the shooting. Two co-suspects, Jonathan Aleman (White male, 29) and Jose Javier Hernandez (Hispanic male, 24), were arrested and charged with capital murder in the 174th State District Court. Ricardo Casaya was also charged with capital murder in the same court but remained wanted. Investigators used witness statements, surveillance video, and data extracted from the victims' mobile phones to identify and link the suspects. Casaya was last seen escaping from officers by swimming into a bayou. As of this posting, Harris County’s court records database confirms that Casaya has an active capital murder warrant and is not in custody.
