Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Benjamin John Butler, 24, was last seen in the early morning hours of Monday, February 25, 2019, when he left a residence in McCloud, a former mill town in Siskiyou County, California, south of Mount Shasta. Before he disappeared he had mentioned plans to travel to Reno, Nevada, and according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office he had told a friend about a week earlier that he was considering a trip there. He asked a friend to care for an infant who was in his charge before he left, which raised concern about his sudden departure. His mother reported him missing to the Sheriff's Office on February 28, 2019, from her home out of state. The Sheriff's Office issued a public appeal in March 2019 describing him as 6 feet 4 inches tall and about 205 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes, and wearing a black and white hooded flannel jacket, blue jeans and tan boots when he was last seen. He had no telephone and no vehicle. Sheriff Jon Lopey told local media in April 2019 that Mr. Butler had a medical condition requiring medication and that investigators were following up on the possibility that he had traveled to Reno. Mr. Butler has several tattoos: the word "Family" written down the inside of his left forearm, a Fox Racing logo over the word "Brothers" between two lightning bolt designs on his forearm, and happy and sad drama masks with a rose between them on his right calf. His case was entered in the national missing persons database in October 2020 with jail booking photographs and photographs of the tattoos. Benjamin Butler has never been heard from again. His case remains open with the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, which lists it among the county's unsolved missing person cases.
