Circumstances of Disappearance:
Daniel Te-Wake was last seen on the morning of April 6, 2020, when he left the Cairns City Backpackers located at Draper Street, Parramatta Park, Cairns QLD in his vehicle, a white 1989 Toyota Camry sedan bearing Queensland registration 335ZDS. The vehicle was located on April 7 parked 'crookedly' on the side of the Bruce Highway, south of Fishery Falls. The vehicle had a smashed window. Police stated they had concerns for Mr Tewake and were not ruling anything out at the investigation stage.
Additional Details:
Seven State Emergency Service crews assisted police with the search, which included four drones to aid in the search of difficult terrain. Detective Acting Inspector Jason Smith said there were no firm leads as to Mr Tewake's whereabouts. "Currently we're searching bushland to the west and the riverway to the east," he said. "There's a significant amount of cane forest in between those two points and we're using drones to assist us with those searches." An extensive land and air search failed to locate Daniel. Mr Tewake was an "experienced camper" who was known to go out to the bush and live off the land for short periods of time, however the duration that he has been missing is "unusual". As of 2022, Daniel remained on the Australian Federal Police's missing persons register and was last seen on the morning of 6 April, 2020 when he left the Cairns City Backpackers in his vehicle.
