Circumstances of Offense:
On the afternoon of October 12, 2020, Jaleel Johnson and Koebe Harris were shot outside a residence on Iowa Street in Bloomington, Illinois. Jaleel died from his injuries, but Harris survived. On the early morning of October 10, 2020, Malcolm Johnson, who was in the Chicago area, learned that his brother, Terrell Moon, was battered in a fight at a house party in Bloomington. Malcolm then traveled to Bloomington, where he met up at some point with James Moon and Kevon Moon. Evidence recovered at the scene of the shooting showed there were two guns used. Specifically, four shots were fired from a .40-caliber Glock 27 handgun. Videos on social media showed Kevon and James Moon holding a Glock 33 and Glock 27 — the weapons prosecutors said were used in the shooting — only two days prior to the shooting. "Twin Glocks," the brothers said in the video.

In March 2021, the State charged Malcolm Johnson, James Moon, and Kevon Moon with various offenses in connection with the shooting. Authorities never located James. A U.S. marshal's task force arrested Kevon Moon, 22, of Chicago, in Lafayette, Indiana, on Wednesday. Moon was awaiting extradition to McLean County from the jail in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Malcolm J. Johnson, 31, of Riverdale, and Kevon Moon, 25, of Chicago, were convicted by a McLean County jury following a trial in May 2024. Malcolm J. Johnson was convicted in May and sentenced to 123 years in prison. Kevon Moon, 25, was sentenced to 103 years behind bars. James Moon, Kevon Moon's brother, is believed to have been involved in the shooting as well. He remains at large, wanted on McLean County warrants for the murder of Jaleel Johnson. He's charged with five counts of murder, plus mob action, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and obstructing justice. The bond on his arrest warrants is $3 million at 10%.
