Summary:
Eckles planned to solo camp on May 17th, 2020 and then meet up with his hunting party the following morning however, he never showed up. As volunteers and law enforcement were searching for Eckles, someone saw another man driving Eckles’ Toyota FJ Cruiser. Eckles’ car was later found abandoned in the woods north of Cle Elum, and detectives found evidence in the SUV that led investigators to believe Eckles was killed although his body has never been located.

By May 23rd, 2020, Eckles had not been seen in a week. The next day, Ian failed to report to work and Ian's family and friends launched a massive search across a vast territory encompassing the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest along the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in Washington.
Additional Details:
The police told family members that the amount of blood that was found in the car would not have been survivable. Police issued a press release that Alcantara is suspected in the murder of Ian Eckles on or around May 17 in the Mineral Springs area near SR97. He emerged as a suspect when deputies found Alcantara in possession of Eckles’ Toyota FJ on May 23, Agency Case Number- S20-04300 Andrea Blume, Detective
