Circumstances of Disappearance:

In September 2021, Ashley married Garrett Given and they lived in a little log house in Fair Haven located at the state line, the last house in Vermont before crossing over the border into New York. Not long after Ashley and Garrett's wedding, Ashley was finally granted custody of her son Devon, who was 14 years old, and her sister Aaron drove down to Fair Haven to help move him into their home on October 17th. Aaron later recalled how Ashley was in good spirits that weekend, happy to have her son back. After Aaron returned home, all communication with her sister stopped and Ashley wouldn't answer the phone or respond to text messages from family members. Goodrich was last seen on the railroad tracks walking away from her home on Prospect Street in Fair Haven, Vermont on October 21, 2021. Her family was initially unconcerned because she had dropped out of sight before and her husband said he was still getting texts from her phone number and Facebook messages from her account.

Additional Details:

Initially, her family continued receiving text messages and Facebook communications from her accounts, something they believed fit her past patterns of occasionally needing distance. However, as months passed without phone calls or in-person contact, concern grew, and she was officially reported missing on December 29, 2022. Fair Haven Police Chief William Humphries went to Goodrich's home to speak with her husband when the missing persons report was filed. Given told him that his wife was now living elsewhere and wanted her location to remain a secret. He showed the chief messages to and from Goodrich on Facebook. The chief asked Given to message Goodrich with a request that she call the police to confirm she was okay. She never called. Her husband told police she was near Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, but she was not found there. He stated she was in hiding and didn't want anyone to know her whereabouts. In June of 2023, six months after Fair Haven Police took up the case and nearly two years after Ashley disappeared, investigators executed two search warrants at Ashley and Garrett's house. One search involved bringing in heavy equipment, including excavators. Agents from the Vermont State Police and the Department of Homeland Security participated in the investigation. Shortly after the search in 2023, Goodrich's husband was arrested by Vermont State Police on a fugitive warrant issued in New York. Given was convicted of arson for having someone set his truck on fire and making an insurance claim, and spent a year in prison in New York. On October 24, 2024, Garrett Given was released on parole by the New York Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to be in a Vermont court again on November 18th on charges unrelated to Ashley's case. In hopes of bringing Ashley home and securing justice, her family increased the reward for information leading to her recovery and the conviction of those responsible from $10,000 to $25,000 as of October 8, 2025. Fair Haven Police Chief Humphries stated "It's definitely not a cold case. It's active. We meet regularly on it. We still follow up leads."
