Circumstances of Disappearance:
James Eugene Sharpe, 76, lived in a trailer on China Grade Road near Happy Camp, a small community on the Klamath River in western Siskiyou County. According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, he was last seen by his grandchildren just after midnight on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He left the trailer carrying a flashlight and was seen walking westbound on China Grade Road, possibly heading toward town. He never arrived in Happy Camp and has not been seen or heard from since. The sheriff's office reported him missing the same day and asked the public for help on October 12, 2021, describing him as 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 200 pounds, with gray hair and a beard, wearing glasses, a gray hat, a brown flannel shirt, a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Early reports described him as last seen on the evening of Saturday, October 9; the sheriff's office later put the time at about 12:30 a.m. on October 10, and its Unsolved Siskiyou page gives just after midnight on October 10. In the days after he disappeared, deputies searched with tracking dogs, a fixed-wing plane and a helicopter in addition to ground crews. The search covered a two-mile radius around his home and about ten miles down the Klamath River. By October 15, 2021 he had not been located, and no trace of him has been reported since. Mr. Sharpe is listed in the California Department of Justice missing persons database and in NamUs, and the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office carries his case on its Unsolved Siskiyou list. The case remains open and unsolved.
