Summary:
On 7/28/21, Katherine "Katie" Janness took her dog, Bowie, for a walk in Piedmont Park in Downtown Atlanta at around 11:15pm. She was found by her partner at 1:15am just inside the entrance to the park, stabbed & cut 50x with blunt force trauma to head and neck.

Circumstances of Offense:
Katie & her dog, Bowie, were murdered just inside the entrance to Piedmont Park. Bowie was found on the sidewalk and Katie was found approximately 60 ft away, off the sidewalk. Katie had approximately 50 stab wounds, incised (mininimally invasive cuts) wounds to her face. Her abdomen had the letters F.A.T. carved into her. There were 15 stabs to her LGBTQ tattoo, approximately 15 incised wounds across her face which covered the entirety of her face, she was almost decapitated, and had blunt force trauma to her head & neck. Her pants and underwear were pulled down to her knees.
Additional Details:
Police released video of 2 runners in the park near the time Katie was murdered, one runner reached out to police, the other runner did not and was seen running in and out of the park over and over staying only 12 seconds each time. The runner was a white male, wearing dark blue shirt, black shorts, black watch, black running shoes with white soles and wearing a headlamp. There is a male's voice on the 911 call as Emma called 911 after coming across Katie's body. The person in the background appears stunned and speaks briefly with Emma and then disappears. There have been no leads and no suspects.
