Summary:

Summer Wells was just 5 years old when she was reported missing from her Hawkins County home on June 15, 2021. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl weighed approximately 40 lbs. at the time and was about 3 feet tall. Summer Wells has not been found. The Tennessee AMBER Alert, first issued on June 16, 2021, remains active as of 2026.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Summer was last seen by her family at their home on Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek Community of Rogersville, a mountainous town north of Greeneville in East Tennessee. According to findsummerwells.com, a website launched by her family in the wake of her 2021 disappearance, the then-5-year-old was last seen heading downstairs to the home's basement. The family noted that the basement had a door facing the back of the house. Her family was home, upstairs and in the front of the house at the time. Summer disappeared from her home on Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek community of Hawkins County around 6:30 p.m. on June 15, 2021. Just after midnight, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an Endangered Child Alert. Around 12 hours later, it was upgraded to an Amber Alert — which is still active today. Police had a tip from a neighbor in 2021, who claimed she and her children heard a scream about one hour before Summer Wells vanished.

Additional Details:

Dozens of agencies spanning multiple states, including Ohio, Virginia, Georgia and North Carolina, also joined in the search. Thousands of tips have been reviewed since Summer disappeared in June 2021, although many were linked to rumors and false social media claims. Summer's parents were never named as suspects in the case, and they both passed a polygraph test. There have been no arrests, no publicly named suspects, and no confirmed physical evidence linking her disappearance to a specific person or location. In July 2021, the Tennessee Department of Children's Services said Summer's brothers were removed from Wells' family home. Tennessee DCS closed cases against Don Wells and Candus Bly, calling abuse and neglect claims unsubstantiated. In August 2025, the TBI released an updated age-progression image of what Summer Wells may look like at about age 9. On Thursday, Nov. 13, the TBI and detectives were at a location in the 3500 block of Van Hill Road in Greeneville following up on a lead in the case. TBI agents, alongside the FBI and the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office, continue to investigate Summer's disappearance. The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to a TBI statement. While there are no new developments to announce publicly, every credible lead continues to be evaluated.
