Summary:
Pedro Vargas-Garcia is wanted in connection with the death of 7-year-old Journee McDaniel.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Authorities say that Pedro was driving a pickup truck when he allegedly ran a stop sign. The truck collided with the vehicle that Journee and two other occupants were in. Journee was transported to a hospital where she was tragically pronounced deceased two days later. At the time of the crash, Journee had just left her brother’s birthday party. The occupants of the pickup truck fled the scene and Pedro had claimed that his truck had been stolen. A DNA swab was taken to see if it was match to evidence from the crash. Seven months after Journee’s death, the DNA evidence led to an arrest warrant for Pedro, who had already gone on the run. As of this posting, Harris County’s court records database shows that Pedro has an active FSRA (Failure To Stop And Render Aid) Accident Involving Death warrant and is not in custody. It does not mention whether Pedro is a US citizen or not. This would potentially complicate extradition if Pedro is a foreign national (which has not been confirmed), based on similar vehicular homicide type cases.
Additional Details:
Anyone with information on Pedro’s whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers Of Houston (to be eligible for the potential reward) at 713-222-TIPS (8477). Pedro should be considered extremely dangerous. Please consider sharing this so that Journee’s family can get justice and answers in their loved one’s case. Even if there does turn out to be extradition issues in this case, I still wanted to publicize this in the memory of a seven-year-old vehicular homicide victim and her grieving family.
