Witnesses stated that they were outside, cooking with Jose when Nestor showed up in a vehicle with another individual. After speaking with Nestor and the other individual, Jose walked away between two garages. That is when authorities say that Nestor followed Jose and allegedly shot him to death. Nestor returned and said “It’s done, let’s go” before putting a handgun in his waistband. This incident might have been related to someone puncturing a tire on Nestor’s vehicle. If that is the case, then that is not an excuse for murder. Nestor was charged with First Degree Murder and fled. The US Marshals quickly got involved and put up a billboard to encourage tips from the public. The US Marshals Cedar Rapids division posted on their X page on 06/24/2025, reminding the public that Nestor was still at large.
