On February 6, 2022, around 12:45 a.m., Felix Rigoberto Cruz was discovered lifeless with multiple wounds in his home in Allapattah, Miami, in the area of Northwest 24th Avenue and Northwest 35th Street. Angel Jimenez-Mejia, a neighbor, was identified as the suspect and the last person seen with the victim. The two had been in some sort of dispute. Jimenez-Mejia fled the scene and has not been seen since. Police recovered bloodstained clothing that the suspect was last seen wearing, and they believe they recovered the murder weapon at the crime scene.

Miami Police issued a public appeal on February 8, 2022, asking for the community's assistance in locating Jimenez-Mejia. Assistant Chief Armando Aguilar Jr. stated that Jimenez-Mejia had not been in contact with his family and had not returned home. Police noted they were investigating the motive but indicated there had been a prior argument between the suspect and victim. Felix Cruz was a mechanic who was married for 12 years and left behind three children. A $5,000 reward was offered for information leading to Jimenez-Mejia's arrest. As of this posting, Jimenez-Mejia has an active homicide warrant in Florida’s warrants database.
