Attempts to locate her have been unsuccessful after an apparent out of state road trip.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reported on October 29, at 10:52 a.m., the Linn County Dispatch Center received a report of a suspicious vehicle on a dead-end Forest Service Road off of Highway 20, approximately 30 miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon. A hunter in the area found a gray Toyota Camry with California license plates parked at the end of the road with no one around. Linn County deputies responded to the location and discovered the vehicle was connected to a female who had been reported missing out of the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office in Northern California. Tammy Pitkin, 54 years old, was reported missing on October 26th but had not been seen by family since October 14th. Tammy was last known to have been in Sutherlin, Oregon on October 17th. Deputies contacted family members and learned Tammy has no connections to the Linn County area. Members of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team have been searching the area and have found no signs of Tammy at this time.

Additional Details:

Deputies learned Tammy most likely had her two small dogs with her, a white/black/brown Jack Russell Terrier and another smaller white dog. Investigators believe Tammy's car was at the dead end forest service road the entire time from October 17th to the 29th, based on the amount of gas remaining in the car. Investigators search her car and the area surrounding her car for 2 1/2 days with no sign of Tammy or her dogs. The white dog has since been found and been adopted by a family in Corvallis Oregon. He was found near where the car was abandoned. Detectives found the following items in the car: her purse with ID, passport, Social Security card, & birth certificate; an overnight bag with toiletries and regular medication; a gun; leashes for her dogs; 2 Home Depot moving boxes, one with clothes the other with shoes; extra Key Fob for the car in the trunk. Detectives believe that Tammy exited the car with her dogs and had the following items on her person: burner phone; Pre-paid Visa Card & all her cash; key fob for car (she locked the car when she exited). Investigators took DNA swabs from the driver side door and steering wheel Prints could not be recovered from the car because of weather. It is unknown if the DNA swabs have been processed yet by Linn County. Investigators released the car to Tammy's son after completing their investigation of the car. After it was picked up and driven back to California, it was sold weeks later by her husband. Her maiden name is Tammy Laughlin. If you have seen Tammy or gave her a ride from the area, please contact Det. Sergeant Paul Eves with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at 541-967-3950.
