On August 20, 2022, at approximately 10:40 p.m., police responded to Louise Avenue in south Morristown, Tennessee after reports of a vehicle crash into a residence. A white Scion tC had accelerated backward into the home. An 18-month-old child, Anderson Lopez Perez, who was sleeping inside the house, was killed in the impact. The driver fled the scene immediately. Officers later found alcohol inside the abandoned vehicle, which was being investigated as a potential factor in the crash.

The Morristown Police Department charged Walter Noe Mendez with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality. An arrest warrant was obtained on August 23, 2022. Investigators believe Mendez knows he is being sought by law enforcement and is actively attempting to evade authorities.
