Family and friends reported that Matthew Guerra was involved in narcotics related activity and would post information supporting that on public sources. After being found in their car, it appeared the victims had been deceased for 3-4 days. Matthew Guerra's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death was identified as homicide. To solve the case, detectives relied on evidence found in Savanah's cellphone which indicated the couple had gone to Preciado's home to sell marijuana on the night of December 21, 2023. Christopher Preciado stated Guerra pointed a gun at him when Preciado "manipulated the weapon" resulting in Soto being shot. Detectives listed in their affidavit they didn't believe Christopher's details were consistent with the evidence at the scene.
