Six days after his mother last spoke with him, on February 13, she was in Dallas filing a missing persons report with Dallas police. Both of his vehicles were also missing. His mother pinged his cell phone with help from a friend in information technology, and his phone pinged just outside of San Antonio on February 23.

Rakim had recently received a large cash settlement in a court battle with men who allegedly stole from him and beat him. The case is assigned to the Dallas Police Department Missing Persons division, and is described as a 'want to talk to' case because Celestine is an adult and police have not seen evidence of foul play.
