Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Rakim was 33 years old when he went missing on February 7, 2023, which was the last time his mother spoke with him. His mother originally did not want him to come to Dallas, but he was determined to go to North Texas. She gave him a cell phone and paid his bill, and he made it his business to call her regularly. Unanswered calls turned into concern, and a call from one of his friends underscored alarm and eventually brought his mother to Dallas. Six days after his mother last spoke with him, on February 13, she was in Dallas filing a missing persons report with Dallas police. Both of his vehicles were also missing. His mother pinged his cell phone with help from a friend in information technology, and his phone pinged just outside of San Antonio on February 23.

Additional Details:

Rakim had recently received a large cash settlement in a court battle with men who allegedly stole from him and beat him. The case is assigned to the Dallas Police Department Missing Persons division, and is described as a 'want to talk to' case because Celestine is an adult and police have not seen evidence of foul play. His mother, from Lafayette, Louisiana, is appealing to anyone to provide information to police. A community gathering was held on March 9, 2023, at Martin Luther King Jr Center in Lafayette to remember Rakim Celestine and other missing persons, with his mother Eva Celestine speaking about her son.
