Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

The shooting occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m. on December 25 in the 1300 block of Louisiana Street in Plant City. Zonteveon's family spent Christmas Eve together, and he was at his grandmother's house in Plant City on Christmas. He left his grandmother's house, telling his mother, his girlfriend, and his daughter he would be back. His grandmother heard gunshots about 30 minutes after he left and called his mother, but nobody knew where he was. Officers responded to a report of a shooting with injuries and found Jamayais Bennett, 20, clutching his chest; he was transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses indicated there was a possible second victim, and the shooter was driving what was described as a silver SUV and fired multiple rounds at both victims. The second victim was discovered at approximately 8:05 a.m. on December 27 when an officer responded to the Garden of Peace Cemetery, where a cemetery employee advised police that while making a routine check he observed a black male covered in blood and lying motionless on the ground near the property's tree-line. The victim was later identified as Zonteveon Shaw, 30.

Additional Details:

Shaw's body had been relocated from the crime scene to the cemetery by someone. Detectives were trying to piece together how Shaw ended up at the cemetery, but had yet to make any arrests. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay shared security video of a silver car that suspects were believed to be in when they shot the two men. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest, and the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers added $4,500 in reward money, bringing the total reward to $9,500. The enhanced reward money was available through June 30, 2025. Zonteveon had a daughter, and she is now 13 years old. His mother, Connie Shaw, has been actively seeking closure and answers about her son's death.
