Circumstances of Offense:
Gidewon was shot dead on February 4, 2023, after a confrontation involving an intoxicated individual who was reportedly expelled from the establishment that night. A witness said Soto was drunk when Michael Gidewon kicked him out of the Republic Lounge in West Atlanta at 6:50 a.m. He returned with a gun and fatally shot Michael. Officers responded around 7 a.m. to the nightclub along Brady Avenue and found the victim shot. He died at the scene. According to a family friend, Soto went home after the shooting, got his passport and fled to the Dominican Republic.
Additional Details:
Jonathan David Soto was a family friend who previously worked for the Gidewons in their nightclubs. The victim's brother, Alex Gidewon, announced on Instagram that he was offering a $100,000 reward, and later raised that amount to $250,000 for information on Soto. Atlanta Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to his arrest. As of April 2026, Soto is still on the Atlanta Police Department’s Most Wanted list.
