On July 23, 2023, at approximately 2:11 a.m., Edinburg Police Department officers responded to a shooting call at the 3900 block of Garfield Avenue in Edinburg, Texas. Officers found 32-year-old Eric Michael Garcia dead inside a vehicle. The University of Texas of Rio Grande Valley issued an alert at 3 a.m. advising students to avoid the area of Teague and Garfield Avenue due to the shooting and police presence. Further investigation identified Juan Miguel Herrera Gomez as a suspect in the murder investigation. Law enforcement executed an arrest warrant at Herrera Gomez's McAllen residence, but he was not found at the home.

Additional Details:

A second murder suspect, 44-year-old Edgar Ivan Gonzalez from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, was arrested on August 2, 2023, at the 6500 block of S. 23rd Street in McAllen and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Garcia's death. Gonzalez's bond was set at $1,000,000. However, Juan Miguel Herrera Gomez remains at large as of the most recent reports. Police recovered Herrera Gomez's 2021 white Chevrolet Silverado. The Edinburg Police Department continues to actively search for Herrera Gomez in connection with the homicide. Herrera Gomez has also been added to the Edinburg Crime Stoppers Most Wanted List.
