Summary:
Vernon Hatchett is wanted in connection with the death of his son, 21-year-old Tylim Hatchett, who had cerebral palsy.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Authorities allege that Tylim’s mother, Sherrilynn Hawkins, and his caregiver, Loretta Harris were receiving money and submitting hours to be compensated for time that they were not taking care of Tylim. The DA’s office says that for the majority of a 17-day period, Tylim was left alone. Tylim required several medications that were not administered as he could not self-medicate. Tylim also lost 31 pounds over a seven-month period. It should be noted that Tylim could not feed himself. Authorities also allege that Vernon visited his son twice and did nothing to provide food, medicine or any other sort of care. Tylim would tragically die from complications of cerebral palsy, neglect and starvation. Vernon called 911 after “finding” his son’s body, allegedly failing to mention the two occasions where he visited his son and refused to provide any aid or care. An extensive investigation was conducted to determine where everyone was during the time that Tylim was being neglected. Tylim’s mother would be arrested on several charges, including first degree murder. The caregiver would also be arrested. Vernon would be charged with involuntary manslaughter and neglect/abuse of a care dependent person. As of this posting, Pennsylvania’s court records database shows no arrest date, disposition or docket entries since Vernon was charged. This does confirm that he is still a wanted fugitive.
Additional Details:
Anyone with information on Vernon’s whereabouts should contact Montgomery County. Det. James Lavin at 484-674-6527. Vernon should be considered extremely dangerous. Please consider sharing this so there can be justice in this appalling case.
