On Saturday, July 6, 2024, around 5 a.m., Jowita Zielińska rode her bicycle from Lisiny to work at a meat shop in Rypin. That day, the 30-year-old called her mother-in-law twice by telephone. She asked whether she should wash her late husband's gravestone as his birthday and wedding anniversary were approaching, and her mother-in-law replied that the gravestone had already been cleaned. Around 12:30 p.m., she returned by bus, which dropped her off in Rogowo. From there she continued by bicycle. Between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., she was seen in Rojewo by an acquaintance. She was only about one kilometer from home. Around 3:00 p.m., her in-laws tried to contact her. The phone was already inactive. About a month after her disappearance, her bicycle was found in a forest near the village of Wierzchowiska, several kilometers from her home.

She spent her childhood in an orphanage. Her husband died of cancer after she had stabilized her life. After her husband's death, she remained in the home of his parents. Locals described Jowita as "hardworking," "helpful," but also quiet. They noted that "life did not spare her." The breakthrough came on July 18, 2026, when random people found human remains in a forest near Lisiny, approximately 300 meters from her home. The remains were discovered by chance individuals who noticed bones while walking. The bones were confirmed to be human. Police with a forensic laboratory and a prosecutor went to the scene. According to prosecutor Małgorzata Kręcicka from the District Prosecutor's Office in Włocławek, "With great probability, the remains found in the forest belong to the missing Jowita Z." Investigators found clothing and a chain at the site, though they did not want to discuss these items. Clothing recovered with the body differs from what the missing Jowita was wearing on the day of her disappearance. If these reports are confirmed, the perpetrator could have detained the abducted victim in another location and then transported the body to the forest. Examinations began on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Results of various tests would take 2 to 4 weeks, according to prosecutor Małgorzata Kręcicka on July 24, 2026. The prosecution emphasizes that the investigation is ongoing and at this stage there have been no arrests or interrogations related to the discovery.
