On March 23, 2025, 17-year-old Angelyn Melinda Nino-Herrera, a Hillcrest High School senior, was killed in a drive-by shooting at Trinity Overlook Park (2300 block of N. Beckley Avenue) in West Dallas. Dallas Police responded to the shooting call at approximately 4:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Nino-Herrera with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries. A fistfight turned gunfight resulted in the death of 17-year-old Angelyn Nino-Herrera on Sunday morning. A witness reported that the suspect vehicle was a black Dodge Charger.

On Wednesday, family and friends had a balloon release in the teenager's honor. Nino-Herrera's family hosted a balloon release on Wednesday in the teen's honor. Many were gathered at the park at the time of the shooting, but Detective Joshua Romero is still looking for closure for the victim's family. There were more than 50 people at Overlook Park when Angelyn was hit by random gunfire, but no one has talked to Romero. A mother is speaking out for help months after her daughter was fatally shot at a Dallas park. The family still hopes for answers after a fight in March led to a shooting at the park, which found and killed the teen, who was an innocent bystander. Nino-Herrera's older sister, Aileen, pleads for the violence to stop. "It was people being stupid, with guns," said Aileen. "It wasn't right. That is the least my sister deserves."
