Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Allen Bautista Milla, 21, has been identified as the driver of the Honda Civic responsible for the December 10 fatal hit and run of bicyclist Blaise Schaeffer, 31, on Nolensville Pike near Burkitt Road. The investigation revealed Milla was seen driving erratically by a city of Nolensville police officer, who attempted to stop the Civic, prior to the collision in the northbound lane shortly after 11 p.m. Schaeffer died at TriStar Nolensville. The suspect continued driving after the collision until the car broke down at Nolensville Pike and Concord Hills Drive. The Metro Nashville Police Department said the driver reportedly ran off into the woods armed with a weapon, but officers were able to detain a female passenger for questioning.
Additional Details:
Traffic Division investigators have obtained warrants charging Milla with vehicular homicide by recklessness, false imprisonment, failure to render aid and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. Investigators said he left the scene on foot and has not been found. The firm recently increased the reward to $50,000 to help locate Milla and bring justice for Schaeffer's family. The case has also drawn renewed attention to the James Bardsley Life Protection Act, which would increase penalties for drivers who leave the scene of a crash. Under the proposal, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in injury would increase from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class E felony. If the victim dies, the charge would increase from a Class E felony to a Class D felony. Next month, the community will gather for the Ride of Silence in honor of Schaeffer and other cyclists killed on the road.
