Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On January 4, 2026, the three children disappeared in the afternoon while playing in the quilombo São Sebastião dos Pretos settlement. They were accompanied by their 8-year-old cousin Anderson. According to the boy's later account, the group decided to enter dense vegetation to avoid being seen by an uncle, at which point they became lost in the thick forest without access to food or water. The children had been searching for a passion fruit tree when they became lost. During a heavy rain, Anderson reported taking shelter in a small structure while the two siblings remained outside. When he left to seek help and returned, he could not find them and wandered alone until rescue teams located him. The disappearance occurred around 1 PM (13h). Anderson Kauã was found on January 7, having lost ten kilos during his three days in the forest.
Additional Details:
Searches involved security forces, search dogs, drones, and specialized teams including the Army and Navy. Criminal investigations continue under court secrecy with more than 700 pages of documents and investigation reports. Search dogs identified the odor of the children up to the banks of the Rio Mearim, where the trail ended. Police discarded the possibility the children were still lost in the forest and found no evidence they drowned or were attacked by animals. The possibility of kidnapping gained prominence in investigations. The mayor of Bacabal offered a reward of 20,000 Brazilian reais for information leading to the children's whereabouts. In September 2026 (eight months after disappearance), Interpol offered support for search efforts. Federal Police ruled out the possibility that the siblings were among 163 children located during an operation in the United States. The mother's genetic material was collected for comparison with a child located in the United States via Interpol databases. The mother reported that Anderson Kauã told her that a man had taken Allan Michael and Ágatha Isabelly, though police did not initially believe this account. Anderson Kauã is autistic, which has made it challenging to obtain detailed accounts of what happened. As of August 13, 2026, formal investigative procedures continued.
