The shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. on March 27 near E. Franklin and Chicago avenues. Late-night gunfire near a well-traveled Minneapolis intersection killed one man and wounded two others. One of the victims died at the scene, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office on March 30 identified him as 51-year-old Daniel Benson, of Newport. Many of the rounds fired at the scene severely damaged a Metro Transit bus shelter.
Additional Details:
In an online fundraiser started on behalf of Benson's relatives, he was recalled as 'the eldest brother in a family of five children—two boys and three girls. He was the family protector, always attentive, kind-hearted, and quick to laugh. Daniel loved his mother dearly and was known for his ever-present smile, even during difficult times'. According to Gun Memorial, Benson was a machine operator at Andersen Windows. Police have yet to address a possible motive behind the gunfire, nor have they announced any arrests.
