Missing From:
Fairfield, California
Summary:
Chantel Brooks, 36, was last seen July 17, after leaving her job at the Le Nain Hotel, a single-room-occupancy hotel in the Tenderloin, where she works as a desk clerk. Detectives suspect foul play has led to Chantel's disappearance due to the extended amount of time that has passed since Chantel has had contact with any family or friends, and other facts learned during the investigation.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
At about 12:20 a.m., surveillance video captured Brooks leaving her job in the 700 block of Eddy Street in San Francisco and later leaving a CVS store in Fairfield around 1:45 a.m. before approaching her vehicle. She was in the same clothing in both, wearing a brown multi-colored brimmed hat, a red zip-up sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and brown furry boots. Police have not said what happened after Brooks approached the SUV or whether she got into the vehicle. The family became concerned when they could no longer track her location, which she shared with one of her brothers. Chantel Brooks was last seen July 17 and was reported missing to police on July 27.
Additional Details:
Her brother, Kevin Robinson, said a Flock camera later recorded her car on 55th Avenue in Oakland. The family has launched an all-out effort to find Brooks, putting up missing-person flyers in Oakland, San Francisco, Vacaville and in Fairfield around her home where she has lived for the past two years. Investigators have conducted ground searches, five aerial drone searches and issued more than a dozen search warrants. Detectives also obtained 10 digital devices and processed multiple vehicles for evidence. Despite numerous ground and aerial searches for Brooks, and 500 hours of police work, no suspects have been identified by investigators. Family members held a candlelight vigil to honor Chantel Brooks on Aug. 2 before they revamped the search a couple days later. Friends also noted that her boyfriend had previously been reported to police for abusing her. On April 7, months before she went missing, a man who lived with her was arrested by Fairfield police officers under suspicion of domestic violence. Police are working with the Solano County District Attorney's Office on this case and have utilized dozens of search warrants.
