Circumstances of Disappearance:

Contarino arrived in the U.S. from Melbourne on June 13 for a solo holiday. The trip was supposed to take her through California and Nevada before she flew home on June 21. She stayed at the Bungalows Hostel on South Las Vegas Boulevard for several days. In the evening of June 19, she was recorded on CCTV cameras arriving at Timbers Bar & Grill between 8:45 p.m. and 10:28 p.m. According to the detective's report, Sally "did not appear to be under any stress and seemed calm and enjoying herself." On June 19, she contacted her friends, telling them about her plan to hike Lone Mountain before going back home. The same day on June 20, police said she was seen on video at a Smith's Marketplace in the northwest valley buying protein bars, water, and cigarettes. She was last seen that day around 1 p.m. near 9700 W. Skye Canyon Drive. She messaged her male friend that she was going to Lone Mountain for a hike, according to police. Sally Contarino was expected to take a Greyhound Bus to Los Angeles to fly home to Australia. Amy Contarino said it appeared her sister never boarded a bus, and her suitcase with her clothes was still at the hostel.

On June 17, Sally Contarino is seen on video recorded by a man known as '@epicdamianpov,' who approached her while she smoked a cigarette in front of a convenience store during her Las Vegas stay. Amy Contarino said the man who recorded the video seemed to cooperate with police and hand over the video. According to the social media account @realvegaslocals, Damian, the man who filmed the video with his Meta glasses, sent them the footage and said metadata showed it was recorded on June 17 at 3.46pm. The video was posted on June 28. Amy Contarino said search dogs tracked her sister's scent near the Fletcher Canyon Trail on Mount Charleston, which is about a 45-minute drive northwest of downtown Las Vegas. Sniffer dogs from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department traced her scent to Lone Mountain — a 2,222-foot desert peak approximately 25 miles from Harry Reid International Airport. Her family provided another possible lead on Facebook, saying a citrine pendant on a silver chain that Ms Contarino often wore was unable to be located, despite them having access to her luggage which was left at her accommodation. They urged people to keep an eye out for the necklace, designed by Bali-based jeweller John Hardy, as it could help solve the case. As of July 2026, there have been no fresh confirmed leads to solve the case, and searches still continue in the rough terrain surrounding Mount Charleston. Victoria Police says it is aware of the investigation and will assist US authorities as required. Her sister, Amy Contarino, told the 8 News Now Investigators in an interview from Melbourne that she believed foul play may be involved. "We just want her to come home," Amy Contarino said. "Obviously, it's been a month now, so you can imagine how our families felt and really starting to feel now as the days go by."
